RL with Ange

[ As soon as Ange had been able to get a worldhop, Yuri had prepared for her. Her discussion with Battler... hadn't really started or ended well, so she was definitely more down than she should've been for Ange coming over, but she wasn't going to bring that up if she could avoid it. Somehow she had her doubts that Ange was just going to let it go, but..

She would still try to smile. That was what made someone human, right? The ability to keep smiling, even after tons of bad things had happened. Yuri wasn't going to let it get to her. Not if she could help it. Ange just got back from the dead and was, somehow, alive. She didn't need to deal with Yuri's problems on top of that.

Of course, the waiting game was another thing that involved gratuitous interest in her laptop. Tetris was, after all, the most fun one could have without internet access (beside the community, of course) while looking like they were actually working on something intense. ]

[ At least she expected as much from Yuri, even if it was partially just a joke, so.. she doesn't look too fazed by it and just drops the subject. Although Ange is practically the queen of not looking fazed when she actually is, so hey, who knows. ]

I'm pretty sure I'm actually alive. [ With a little effort it's not that difficult to force herself back to deadpan, either, in both tone and expression. It's easy to fall back into the routine if you just pay attention to it and forget the rest. ] You could test it by killing me, but I wouldn't recommend it since I'd probably end up completely dead again.

[ At least her own casual speaking about dying goes along with Yuri's bluntness. ]

... And you? [ Well, she knows Yuri won't tell her either way, that she'll just say she's okay, but.. ]

Unless you appeared in this world without a worldhop, I wouldn't do that. [ Even if Ange did, she'd probably treat Ange special and just take it out on Hinata. ]

Nothing time won't fix and nothing that's not my own fault. You being alive is definitely... a relief, though. A lot better than I was.

[ Yuri's good at hiding her feelings, but she's not going to lie when she knows that Ange knows shit's been going down. ]

All things considered, better than I could be.

That's at least good to hear.

[ And she means it genuinely, after all, she would want her friend to be okay regardless of circumstances. ]

I guess I'm pretty glad I came back then, if that helps that much. [ It's slightly a joke, even if it doesn't quite sound like it like always with her, since she's obviously pretty glad to be back in general.. ]

So do you know what happened?

[ That is of interest to Yuri. If Ange isn't dead, that doesn't change the fact that Yuri saw her being ripped to pieces. No one could survive that in normal circumstances. ]

Yeah. I already overheard some stuff from what everyone else told me, but.. I heard the whole story once I talked to Battler onii-chan. .. I was with him just now, right before I came here, that was when we talked.

[ although that was all very much from Battler's point of view, which is why she's here now. ]

[ Yuri gives her a little smile, though it's not exactly the brightest one she's ever given. ]

He doesn't know the whole story, but no one's allowed to tell him so...

Yeah, I know. [ Her own tone sounds a little less spirited at that too - Yuri had told her that she had to do something that was told to her by that future Battler or whatever, after all. ] I guess I should have said just now that I heard what he thought was the whole story.

But.. saving Beatrice.. was that what that future Battler told you to do? Was that why you came to our world after talking to me? [ her tone doesn't sound judging - not now, either way, more just.. curious. ]

He never... told me why she would need saving. I had no idea who you were, or that that would happen. He just said something happened at the end of game four and he would destroy Beatrice. He'll bring her back later, but she'll be empty.

He had to know you'd be back, and that's why he didn't tell me and just wanted me to focus on her.. [ After all, not telling her about Ange... not telling her to save Ange, and just focus on Beatrice.. that was too much wasn't it? Especially considering who he had been talking to. ]

I don't.. really know the details, but she's in love with Battler. He'll remember who she is, whoever she is, and he'll be in love with her but she'll be gone, so I wanted to save him from having to lose anyone else. Especially at his own hands.

Wait-- In love with onii-chan, that witch?! [ Watch Ange's expression go from still reasonably calm to completely shocked, even though it helps making sense out of quite some things, it's still-- ]

Is that what she wanted him to remember when she was talking about that sin, wanted him to remember her? So she did all of that, killed our entire family just out of some selfish reason of her own or whatever, and you're saying Battler onii-chan would love her back?

[ ... Okay, Ange, calm down.. Now is not the right time to explode over this, not in front of Yuri, not right after coming back from the dead. ]

... Sorry. I'm sorry you weren't able to save her, but.. I'm sure it's not your fault, Yuri.

The Battler I talked to loved her so much that he hated himself for what he did. I promised I would change what happened. I know it's not... my fault that Battler did what he did. I should've been able to do something though.

[ She pauses. ]

I've managed to think of probably every single second that I would've been able to change what happened to save him. [ Because it was Beatrice she was trying to save, it was Battler. ] I wouldn't care if he hated me if I'd just managed to do it.

How were you supposed to stop him if he just teleported away with her right after what happened to me..? [ She knows at least that much through what Battler told her. ]

It's not like you could have magically instantly followed him, right? Besides, if you want to blame anyone for it all, then blame me. I'm the one who encouraged him to fight in the first place.

I know it's stupid to think about and it's not my fault. I know it isn't, but it still feels like I could've done something. I don't want to play the blame game, Ange. If anyone's to blame, it's Battler for losing his temper and killing someone.

[ She pauses for a moment, obviously not sure what she should follow up with. ]

Either way, Battler hates me. He told me to disappear and go be with the family I couldn't save. A lot of other things too, but.. [ God that one hurt. Other people saying things like that hurts, but Battler saying it just... ]

I'll deal with it, Ange. Don't worry about me. I've been through a lot worse than this.

He told you what? [ Sure, she can let the blame game rest for now, but.. god, Battler, stop having your foot-in-mouth moments all over the place constantly, did you really have to call out Yuri on the thing that hurts her most? ]

Of course I'm going to worry about you, especially under these circumstances. We're friends, right? You don't have to do everything alone, or take everything onto yourself. [ like the blame. ] I'm here too. Even if Battler is my older brother, and I care about him a lot.. I care and worry about you too..!

Thanks. For wanting to be there for me. I think this is probably better though. I have to focus on other things than worrying about Battler and.. the two of you keep making me feel like things might be okay, and that's not good. I may hate feeling like this but it gives me the strength to keep fighting.

It's okay to focus on other things than Battler onii-chan for a bit, but then you should really focus on other things instead of just thinking or worrying about what happened. [ 8| onto you.. ]

Besides, he might get better with time, since I'm back too now, and he might get calmer.. I'll do my best to talk to him too, since I don't blame you for anything. I mean-- [ she knows about Yuri disappearing, she told her that, but still.. ] ... Maybe it's okay to just feel a little like it might be okay, right? As long as it's nothing enough, and..

I don't mind being there for you when you need it until then.

I can't help but think about that moron sometimes since he's going to end up getting himself killed too if he isn't careful.

[ Yuri clears her throat, then gets out of and away from the chair, walking toward Ange and puts a hand on her shoulder. ]

Thanks. Let's go do something instead of sitting here talking about depressing things though.

That's why I'm around, right? I'm going to be sticking around with him again from now on for as long as I can, so I'll be there to watch over him. [ Not that she's too competent with how she got herself killed, but that was because Battler was too much of an idiot to figure it out earlier.. ]

... Wait, what do you want to do? [ She seems a little genuinely curious as she blinks. ]

[ Yuri doesn't respond to the first part, deciding to simply.. trust her. She trusted Ange before, as Gretel, there's no reason she shouldn't now. She'd just have to hope nothing bad happened.. or if it did, Ange would come back again. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but Yuri was already pretty sure that she couldn't protect people outside of her world. Evidence showed that already-- hell, she couldn't even protect people in her world. ]

Have you eaten yet? Real food anyway. I'm guessing you're staying with Battler, so everything they've got over there is tea and sweets. I've got a ton of meal tickets [ Hehe operation tornado is fun ] and if you don't want any of the ones I grabbed, there might still be a mess from last night where we can go grab a different one.

[ Are you eating right Ange? >8| Wear a jacket in the cold andand make sure you've got your name on your underwear. ]

[ For a moment she just stares, pretty much, because.. why does she get the feeling she's almost being babied here? Yuri tell her not to call her onee-chan and then goes and acts like this, totally Yuri onee-chan behaviour up in here, okay. ]

No, I haven't eaten yet since I woke up again, so I guess I wouldn't mind going to get some food from those meal tickets of yours, even if I'm not particularly hungry. Would it be okay for me to just walk around here though? They would know I'm not part of this school, right?

[ There's a pause, but.. then her stomach grumbles rather loudly. Ange is the queen of pretending to be okay and casual when she's not, okay. ]

[ This is exactly why Yuri figured as much. 8| ]

It's fine. Angel's even seen Battler and left him alone, it's not like anyone's going to do anything. If anyone in the SSS questions it I'll give them a sudden and excruciatingly long mission that may take weeks to come back from.

[ Yuri reaches into her skirt pocket and pulls out a couple of small tickets. ]

I've got an udon, a curry, an omurice, and two yakisoba-pan left. If you want something else from the bread lady I can just steal something.

[ Not that the tickets aren't stolen. ]

[ oh, looking after her once again, onee-chan.. ]

Anything is fine with me, I'm not a very picky eater. [ especially since she was bullied out of meals and especially the nice ones in her own school.. ]

I guess curry sounds just fine for me though, you don't have to go through more effort than that for me.

[ Not that she particularly cares the tickets are stolen since lol, Ange and morals.. ]

How is it more effort? I just give the ticket to the lunch lady and she does all the work.

[ this is the life okay? no cooking ever unless she wants to. ]

No, I meant the stealing part. I'm fine with anything, so you don't have to go out and steal more when we already have this much, right? [ operation tornado..

She stands up from her seat and takes a few steps, as if she's going to lead and try to find the place to get some food here even though Yuri would obviously know it better.. ]

It's sort of strange to be in a school though, since I only just got out of mine finally a little while ago.

[ Actually she was just gonna be lame and steal sandwiches and juice boxes if she wasn't okay with that. ]

Try living at one. It's pretty strange itself.

[ Yuri stretches her arms above her head and follows Ange out, not particularly concerned if Ange doesn't have any idea where she's going. ]

[ Ange is pretty content to just wander through the school a little either way, it's a good excuse to see some more of Yuri's world without actually literally just snooping around. Besides, just casually walking around with Yuri and talking to her is.. fun, right? It's almost as if she's normal that way, with actual friends at a school.. ]

I used to live at one. Boarding school and all that. So it isn't that strange to me.
