[ Yuri was never really concerned about the downpour. She missed the sun a lot sometimes-- staying here meant that it was very difficult to enjoy the sunlight anymore, since there pretty much was none. It was always raining. It was honestly a bit depressing, but Yuri took to making sure she went outside anyway. Just because it was raining didn't mean she was going to be cooped up and right now, she'd wanted some time to think. The rush of falling water made enough noise that usually canceled out everything else, enough that she could think clearly just by standing out here.

When Battler took his place next to her, she glanced at him momentarily before turning her gaze back to the roses until he'd spoken. After the words left his mouth, she took a step forward and turned around to face him. ]

Dying is misery is a lot worse than living in it. If she ends up in a place like I had after she dies, she'd be in just as much pain but stuck with it and so much more alone. Even if I didn't want her to live myself, knowing that I'd still say it was the right thing to try to help her move on. Preferably before it's too late for her.

[ Yuri's pretty sure she knows what this is about too. ]

Did you talk to Eva-Beatrice?

Mmm...

[he did talk to her. it's why he's feeling this way right now.

at least he still has yuri, he can talk to her about these kinds of things just fine, at least... he thinks so. if he told her fully what he was planning he might get in trouble for it, but he knows what ange's like, how stubborn she is, and maybe she really will believe whatever he tells her as well.]

..There are things to live for that aren't simply in 1986, I want her to understand that. [he turns to look at her too.]

I know you said you'll save me, but even so in her world of 1998 I'm still dead. All I want is for her to accept the fact that even if the family is dead, if I'm dead, that we're still behind her in spirit, still with her no matter what so it's okay to live on.

[ There's the briefest of pause before Yuri responds to Battler's words. That her family is still behind her.. that's a huge problem isn't it? Eva-Beatrice might've been a little right about what Battler was planning to do. She wanted to trust him, but with the way things are sounding. ]

How are you planning on doing that without flat-out lying to her? She told me what happened, what Kyrie said about abandoning her.

...A game to show her what it means to move on.

[he knows it's not the best thing to do but he just has to do it.]

Just trust me Yuri, she's too stubborn for just words, you know that.

I do trust you. So promise me you're not going to lie to her.

[ Eva-Beatrice already put the idea that he would into her head. ]

Promise me and I'll believe you, since I do trust you.

[ugh. he can't just lie to yuri either.]

I can't promise that. [it's hard, it's messed up, he knows that, he does.]

If she wants the truth, she wants it so she can die, I can't just give it to her that easy, I want to get something across to her before I let her have something so important, I need to know she won't kill herself.

I'm sorry. I just.... don't know what to do anymore.

[ Yuri listens to his words carefully. She doesn't want to tell him that he doesn't have her support, but more than anything she knows that hiding it isn't going to be satisfying. If that was the truth, Yuri herself could've felt better about the things she'd gone through so much sooner, but she knew that she could never accept a lie. ]

I think I'm with Eva-Beatrice on this one.

[ Yuri backs up a little bit, brushing her wet bangs back out of her face again before crossing her arms. ]

I love you and I want you to try to help her and I'll do anything I can to help Ange, but I'm not going to tell you that lying to her is the right way to go about this. You're not wrong to want to help her move on or find a way for her to seek happiness, but a happiness built on lies is just going to fall apart. She needs to know the truth, accept it, then be able to find a real reason to keep going.

[ Yuri pauses for just a moment, unsure if she should add what she wants to but she knows how much of an idiot Battler can be. So if she doesn't put herself out there then there's no way he'll get it. ]

I've only got one right now, then I'll be gone. [ Not in the same way that Ange wants to die, but she's trying to get Battler to understand that having a reason is important. ] You need to help her find a damn good one that's not built on anything but the truth.

[...w...wait, what?

was he really hearing this right?

he thought for sure that yuri would always be on his side, would support him, but then she said she would be on the opposing side this time and he simply stared at her. he didn't really know what to say, and if he was conflicted before then he was definitely feeling it now.

all he wanted was for her to be happy... and so... what he wanted to do... was it really that horrible?]

....But... [his voice was just a whisper.] ...she has a grudge against Eva Oba-san, she's looking to blame someone, she won't accept just anything and sh.....she might just kill herself...

[he frowned further, his gaze looking down now, he almost looked pained.]

Battler, do you remember how upset I was after Naoi tried to rewrite my memories even if it would've made me happy? Or how upset you were when I wouldn't tell you why I tried to stop you from hurting Beatrice? Or even when I tried to hide that I was worried about Ange going missing, you were pissed at me for trying to lock that post from you. [ Lies of omission and hiding things count, too. ]

You're the big bad sorcerer, so you have to hide things from me. I get it. But if this game is really about Ange feeling better and not about you, then find a way to do it that doesn't involve lying to her.

[ Yuri's voice holds no sense of hesitation, practically berating him for this. She sounds confident. ]

I told Eva-Beatrice that I trusted you with this whole thing, that I wouldn't tell you to let her die or to just give into her wishes to end it or anything.

[ Yuri's expression softens a little as she looks to the side, her tone changing just a bit. ]

How is anyone supposed to trust a liar? Especially if it falls apart, then the one thing that she has left-- a brother who cares about her and wouldn't treat her like she's just some stupid kid who'll fall for anything she says, is gone. You promised her you'd show her the truth, didn't you? [ Ange told her that much too. ] How am I supposed to trust you if even your own sister can honestly believe that when I know you're not planning to?

[he listens to her carefully, understanding what she's saying, and yet at the same time he's far too stubborn to fully give in. he thinks this is the only way, it's all he can see, and he knows at the same time that it's wrong but he doesn't think there's any other option. especially since eva beatrice told him to let ange go, to let her die if she wanted to, and no that's no good, no good at all, he simply won't allow that at all.

they've been through too much, she has so much to live for, she has to realize that, and if lying to her is the only option then so be it. he'll offer her a key at the end of their journey and ask her to choose a door. everything that happened, was it magic? will she let the magic live on in her heart, or will she still say it was all a lie, a trick, and that's all this had ever been? whatever she chooses it's her destiny, that's what he'll allow from her.

but the journey is for him to decide.]

The truth will kill her.

[he brought a hand up to his face, covering it for the time being, not wanting to look at her, actually feeling ashamed for what he's about to do. he had listened to her, to the entire community before, about how he was being a jerk and not acting like himself and he had listened, had forced himself to become what he was before during his battle with the witch.]

I'm sorry....

You know I don't give a damn about that stupid red magic stuff. I already know that there's always loopholes in everything, I learned that much from you.

[ Yuri knew he felt bad about it. But feeling bad about doing the wrong thing and actually doing the right thing were different. Part of her.. definitely wants to comfort him. To tell him it'll be okay and that she still loves him, but she knows that'll just end up with him not taking her words seriously. ]

I'll stay here and I'll still find a way to save you, but as long as you're thinking like that I can't trust you.

[what more can be said here? she doesn't trust him anymore, she won't believe in him, she's not on his side at all, and to top it off she said she'll still stay here and save him but there's no way she'll go back to trusting him. it was all like a punch in the face, and he didn't know what to do.

he looked back up at her, the nodded about all that, turning around and walking back the way he came.]

Like I said before, I don't mind being the bad guy if it means protecting those I love. If that's how you feel then so be it.

[ It hurt a little that despite everything, it wasn't that he was going to back down or reconsider her opinion at all. That he was more than content to lie to her than consider other possibilities. She couldn't talk, of course, considering that she tended to close herself off from other when she thought she had to do the right thing but..

She'd never outright ignored what the others had to say. Certainly not what Battler had to say. "So be it" was about as dismissive as you could get, and that was a bit painful to hear. ]

This is going to bite you in the ass, Battler.

[ And not just because of her. ]
