Yuri Nakamura was born to a wealthy family. She spent her childhood growing up in a peaceful, large house, slightly isolated from the rest of Japan. One day, her parents left her in charge of watching her brother and two sisters. This would be the same fateful day that a trio of burglars would come to that house and try to rob them. Being unable to find their valuables, they told Yuri that she had ten minutes to find something for them. Every ten minutes that passed, they would kill one of her siblings. The silent alarm in their security system had alerted the police, but they only came after her brother and two sisters were killed in front of her.

Yuri blamed herself for their deaths, because she was their older sister and she was supposed to be taking care of them. She's just a child, and with her parents too much in despair over the loss of three of their children, they couldn't give her the attention she needed to understand that it wasn't her fault or get her the help she needed after such a trauma. Yuri spent the rest of her childhood facing life as the survivor. Topic of gossip wherever she went, never able to meet someone without receiving an apology. But the apologies, to Yuri, were meaningless. She'd heard them so many times and they never changed anything. There wasn't anyone around her who seemed to understand her feelings, and she began to cut everyone off. She was completely alone because she'd cut everyone off.

Around the time she turned 15, the men who had been arrested in the murder of her siblings were out on parole for good behavior. That was when she realized that no matter how much she just tried to force herself to live life normally, with the occasional outburst or troublesome behavior that caused her parents a lot of grief, nothing was going to change. She would be alone forever, and nothing would ever be right in the world the way that things were. Yuri wasn't sure what she was going to do, but she had to do something, and when she found someone who was willing to put up with her poor behavior, but still stand up to her when she was really in the wrong, she began to slowly form a gang centered around a rebellion against an inefficient and broken legal system based around the silver tongues of lawyers instead of reality, facts, and justice.

Instead of going up against the government, however, they take a more protective-style of vigilantism, trying to stop crimes when they happen instead of waiting for the police to get there. This gang, name up for debate due to an ongoing conflict over what it should stand for, was known simply as the SSS. With Yuri as their leader, they were a surprisingly effective bunch of screwed up teenagers, and no one was rejected based on their past. It was about becoming a better person and helping themselves and the people around them when no one else would. These people became more like a family to Yuri than her parents, who had essentially given up on trying to figure out what to do with her.

Three years later, after the SSS had developed significantly, Yuri was arrested for violent behavior, gang activity charges, and obstruction of justice after getting into a somewhat public knife fight while trying to protect a woman from being assaulted by him. A strange occurrence happened when she lost her knife but still managed to finish the fight using her Deadman ability, though she didn't know much about it at the time. Yuri used an injury on her hand to disarm the man's knife by firing a blood 'bullet' at his hand just before the police arrived and handcuffed her. The rest of the gang appeared to have gotten away and are currently at large, whereabouts unknown.
